The London-based monitoring group said that warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) carried out more than 90 airstrikes on ISIS cells and hideouts in the central region over the last 24 hours. Most of the airstrikes hit the Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa triangle and western Deir Ezzor.
In spite of the intense Russian airstrikes, ISIS cells were able to carry out a new series of attacks on Syrian government forces in the central region.
“ISIS managed to kill nine regime soldiers and loyalists in surprise attacks in Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa triangle,” the SOHR’s report reads.
The SOHR also claimed that communication was lost with a group of 12 pro-government fighters that was operating in the central region.ISIS cells launch attacks in the central region from their main stronghold, the Homs desert. The vast desert area lays between eastern Homs and western Deir Ezzor. Hundreds of terrorists have been taking shelter there for the last three to four years.
The recent operations in the central region by Syrian government forces and the VKS inflicted some serious losses on ISIS cells. Nevertheless, the terrorist group continues to operate in the region.
